About me

I'm a part-time photographer with high quality digital SLR cameras and selection of lenses who enjoys taking photos of people at sporting and other events in the Wellington region of New Zealand.

My interest in photography is a family thing, with my father being a keen photographer and having his own dark room at home back in the “olden days”.

Although my sporting life involved mainly playing cricket and hockey, and more recently tennis, I've always had an interest other sports. In 2007 a work mate started playing Premier rugby so I took a few photos of him and the team and it's gone on from there. Chainsaw is my nickname from the way I was able to “take out” the opposition (all totally legal of course 😉) while playing hockey as a defender, and when I learnt my photos were going onto the internet I had to quickly think up a name. Hopefully it’s a memorable one.

I have now covered rugby, cricket, AFL (Aussie Rules), touch rugby, rugby sevens, tennis, hockey, basketball, soccer/football, futsal, lacrosse, school concert, dog agility championships, business Award night, full weeks of the NZ Masters Games as an official photographer, a few weddings, as well as wedding anniversary, engagement and birthday parties.

I've had photos appear in newspapers: the Dominion Post, Kapi Mana News, Independent Herald and Taupo Times; as well as magazines: Rugby News, NZ Rugby World and D-Photo, not to mention a few books. I have also worked for CMGSport, Photosport and Dave Lintott Photography.

If you would like me to take photos of your event, party, gathering or sports game, contact Russell (Chainsaw), and we'll work something out.
